A Kuru Kururu man who pocketed $6M for selling a Subryanville home belonging to somebody else has been jailed for three years.Sixty-one year old Ray Ferriera appeared before Magistrate Fazil Azeez,Adam Duvall Reds Jersey, charged with the offence of obtaining by false pretence. The man had been told that the owner was overseas and that no arrangements had been made to sell the home.Da Silva subsequently tried to make contact with the alleged homeowner but all efforts proved fruitless. Ferriera could not be found at the address given nor could he be contacted on the phone numbers offered.Da Silva made a report to the police and sometime later Ferriera was apprehended on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.At the man’s trial,ArDarius Stewart Jersey, several persons testified to Ferriera being the one who sold the property and being the one who collected the $6M down payment on the house. Even the lawyer who drew up the documents gave his testimony in the matter.Ferriera claimed that he was not the person they sought. He claimed that he did not transact any business and the police had the wrong person since he was in Mahdia at the time of the crime.
